HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4874RESOLUTION NO. 4874 RECOGNIZING AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR THE WORK PERFORMED BY THE SAN RAFAEL PLANNING COMMISSION IN THE PREPARATION OF THE SAN RAFAEL GENERAL PLAN. WHEREAS, State law substantially changed the contents and increased the complexity of General Plans in 1971 and necessitated that the City of San Rafael prepare and adopt a new General Plan; and WHEREAS, the development of a new General Plan necessitated the formulation of goals and objectives on basic issues involving this community's future; and WHEREAS, there was a wide divergence of public opinion relevant to such basic goals and objectives; and WHEREAS, the resolution of these different opinions into a plan that would be supported by the majority of the community represents the highest level of dedi- cation and ability; and WHEREAS, in an effort to accomplish the above, the Planning Commission met for long hours and with unprecedented frequency during 1973 and 1974; and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission with staff assistance carefully listened to the public input and in response thereto substantially rewrote the General Plan to accommodate the expressed desires of the citizenry; and WHEREAS, The General Plan as rewritten by the Planning Commission and city staff is the plan that has been adopted by the City of San Rafael; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Rafael publically acknowledges the conscientious, dedicated, and extensive work per- formed by the Planning Commission and the personal sacrifice of many nights and hours that this necessitated upon the part of the individual commission members; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council expresses its conviction that these efforts were of substantial importance in the ultimate formulation of a plan that could be supported by a large majority of the public and which was adopted by the City Council; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council expresses its thanks for a most difficult job well done to these dedicated Planning Commission members.
