Resolution of Appreciation
Presented to the
Canine Ares
WHEREAS, after over six years of devoted service to the City of San Rafael, Canine Ares is retiring.
Ares’s employment with the City commenced in 2013 as one of two San Rafael Police
Canines; and
WHEREAS, upon his joining the San Rafael Police Department, Ares successfully completed a five -
week canine patrol course and a five week canine narcotics detection course. Ares
immediately became a valued member of the department; and
WHEREAS, in 2014, Ares, along with his handler, successfully passed canine SWAT school and
joined the department’s SWAT Team; and
WHEREAS, Ares was deployed hundreds of times during his career for tasks including locating
hiding criminal suspects, locating suspects in burglaries and assaults, searching for
narcotics, and safely clearing buildings and vehicles; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Ares assisted the Marin County Major Crimes Task force in locating
narcotics related to large scale organized crime narcotics trafficking; and
WHEREAS, Ares was the main attraction at many community events including, National Night Out,
Camp Chance, school career fairs, Citizen Police Academy, and neighborhood meetings;
and
WHEREAS, Ares’s presence at calls for service provide d safety for each officer at every call to which
he was sent; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a San Rafael Police Canine Ares was always a good dog.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby congratulates
Canine Ares on his retirement and commends him for his dedication and distinguished service on behalf of the
residents of San Rafael.
