HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 4255RESOLUTION NO. 4255 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL REQUESTING THE LOCAL AGENCY FORMATION COMMISSION OF THE COUNTY OF MARIN TO EXCLUDE THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL FROM THE PROPOSED MARIN COUNTY REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT WHEREAS, there exist within the City of San Rafael open spaces and open areas characterized by great natural scenic beauty and whose existing openness, natural condition or present state of use if retained, will enhance the present or po- tential value abutting or surrounding urban development and will maintain or enhance the conservation or natural and scenic resources; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has been subject to high degree of developer activity which threatens for all time the avail- ability of open space areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Rafael has an assessed valuation equal to some 22% of the assessed valuation of the County of Marin which enables the City of San Rafael to finance an open space acquisition program adequate to meet the community's needs; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Rafael has set a special election for September 19th, 1972 to ask the voters of San Rafael to approve a 10� per hundred dollars of assessed valuation tax levy to finance a bond issue on the order of some $2,250,000 for the acquisition of open space; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin are in the process of forming an agency to levy a tax of up to 10� per hundred dollars of assessed valuation which would be an un- necessary duplication of taxation and the open space acquisi- tion program of the City of San Rafael. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael unanimously requests that the Local Agency For- mation Commission of the County of Marin take the action necessary to exclude the City of San Rafael from the proposed Marin County Regional Park District. I, MARION A. GRADY, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify the the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly intro- duced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said City held on Monday , the 19th day of June , 1972, by the following vote, to -wit: AYES: COUNCILMEN: Barbier, Jensen, Miskimen, Mulryan and Mayor Bettini NOES: COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT: COUNCILMEN: None MARION A.
