RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION
FOR
RICK DeMONT
WHEREAS, RICK DeMONT, at the young age of 16 years, has brought
both national and international recognition to the City of
San Rafael as former world record holder of the 1500
meter freestyle swimming event and by shattering the 400
meter freestyle record at the 20th Olympiad in Munich,
Germany; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of San Rafael are extremely proud of the
courage he displayed by accepting the harsh and agonizing
decision of the International Olympic Committee to revoke
a well-earned gold medal and yet not hinder his determin-
ation to remain in international competition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of San Rafael unanimously commends RICK DeMONT
for outstanding athletic achievement and urges that he con-
tinue training under the guidance of his fine coach, Don
Swartz, to go on again as a representative of the United
States in the 1976 Olympic Games.
I, MARION A. GRADY, Clerk of the City of San Rafael hereby certify
that the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly in-
troduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council
of said City held on Monday, the 1 1 th day of September,
1972 by the following vote, to -wit:
