THIS AGREEMENT is executed this _k day of / k2c, EI 2023, by the CITY OF
SAN RAFAEL, as SELLER, and Zachary Brickell, as BUYER.
RECITALS
WHEREAS, SELLER is the owner of that certain retired police dog ("Dog") described
as follows:
Name: Achilles;
Breed: German Shepherd;
Sex: Male;
Birthdate: 05/06/16.
WHEREAS, BUYER is a San Rafael Police Officer who has acted as the handler for the
Dog in connection with the Dog's work for the San Rafael Police Department; and
WHEREAS, due to BUYER's intimate and long-standing relationship with the Dog, and
BUYER's unique qualifications to handle the Dog, SELLER wishes to sell the Dog to BUYER,
and BUYER desires to acquire the Dog from SELLER.
NOW, THEREFORE, SELLER hereby sells the Dog to BUYER, subject to the
following terms and conditions:
AGREEMENT
1. Purchase Price: The full purchase price for the Dog, including the Dog's kennel, is One
Dollar ($1.00), receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by SELLER.
2. SELLER hereby represents that:
a. SELLER is the legal owner of the Dog, and obtained the Dog from Golden Gate
K9 in January 2019. The Dog has been specially trained as a police dog, including
the following specific training: Handler protection, Criminal apprehension,
Narcotics detection, and S.K.I.D.D.S..
b. The Dog has no adverse health conditions that are known to SELLER, except for
any conditions noted in the attached medical records.
c. The Dog has had the following vaccinations:

d. The Dog will need the following vaccinations next:

3. BUYER hereby agrees to be the legal owner of and take possession of the Dog immediately
upon execution of this Agreement.
4. Upon BUYER taking possession of the Dog pursuant to this Agreement, BUYER shall
indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SELLER from and against any and all claims or
suits for damages, injury or wrongful death caused by or arising from any action or conduct
of the Dog. BUYER shall further indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SELLER from
and against all costs, attorney's fees, expenses, and liabilities related to any claim or any
action or proceeding brought within the scope of this indemnification.
5. Except as specifically stated herein, SELLER makes no representations or warranties to
BUYER concerning the Dog or this sale, and from and after the date of taking possession
of the Dog, BUYER releases SELLER from any and all expenses attributable to the Dog,
or liability for loss, injury or damages to the Dog or to BUYER or BUYER's real or
personal property or to any other person or property, caused by, arising from, connected
with or attributable, in whole or in part, to the Dog.
6. If BUYER decides for whatever reason he no longer wants to own or possess the Dog,
BUYER shall provide SELLER with the first right to re -acquire the Dog from the BUYER
for One dollar ($1.00). BUYER shall provide SELLER with written notice of BUYER'S
intention to transfer ownership of the Dog. Upon the receipt of such written notice,
SELLER shall have ten (10) calendar days to provide BUYER with an unequivocal,
irrevocable, written commitment to purchase the Dog. If SELLER fails to provide
BUYER with such notice within the 10 -day period, BUYER shall be free to transfer the
Dog to a third party.
WHEREFORE, the parties have executed this Purchase and Hold Harmless Agreement
on the date first set forth above.

some significant disease on his 108 and 208 teeth. We may discuss a plan of doing
these COHATs more often or even a referral to a veterinary dentist. There is a small
fractured mandibular incisor that needs to be removed.

Discharge Instructions for Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment
(COHAT) Procedure
Client: SAN RAFAEL POLICE DEPT
Patient: ACHILLES
Your Veterinarian was: Dr. David Sierra
Today, your pet had a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment
procedure. This included an exam of their oral cavity under anesthesia; measurement
of periodontal pocket depth around each tooth; and dental radiographs of all of their
teeth. Then, using both hand scaling and ultrasonic scaling, we removed all
accumulated tartar from their teeth, especially under the gum line where it does the
most damage. The teeth were then polished which helps to prevent tartar recurrence.
There were two large chewing teeth on the upper right and left jaw that are showing
signs of significant periodontal disease. I would recommend getting a second opinion
on management of these teeth from a veterinary dentist. If this disease were to
progress he would likely need extraction of these teeth. I would recommend calling

Additional procedure(s) performed today:

Post Procedure Instructions:
Feed them lightly (1/4 to 1/3 of the normal amount) tonight. Offer them plenty of
water. You can feed them normally starting tomorrow.
Occasionally, a patient may cough following a dentistry. This is due to the
endotracheal tube used during anesthesia. The coughing should be mild and resolve
within 1 to 3 days. If there is a persistent cough beyond this time, please let us know.
Please monitor for any of the following: excessive coughing, mouth soreness,
bleeding, not eating, lethargy or anything else that seems out of the ordinary or
suggestive that their recovery is not doing well. If you notice anything of concern,
please let us know as soon as possible. We have veterinary staff on duty 24 hours a
day to assist you.

Why is routine dental care so important for my pet's health?
Regular dental and oral health care is a vital part of keeping ourselves healthy. Most of
us see our dentist twice a year. We floss, brush, and may use a mouthwash at least
twice a day. We do this to keep our teeth and gums healthy and to hopefully prevent
oral disease. So, what about our pets? They have teeth, too. Proper hygiene is as
important to them as it is to us.
If you take a whiff of your pet's mouth, you may notice that he or she often has bad
breath. This is because they may not be getting the proper dental care they need to
keep their teeth clean. Like us, they need to have their teeth brushed daily and
intermittently have their teeth scaled and polished. Without this kind of care, tartar and
plaque can build up on the teeth and lead to periodontal disease.
What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease begins when plaque and tartar build up on your pet's teeth. The
plaque is a sanctuary for bacteria. The bacteria will then infect and inflame the gum
tissue surrounding the tooth. This can result in tooth decay and eventual tooth loss. In
the advanced stages of periodontal disease, the bacteria can invade the blood stream,
causing problems with other organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys.
Periodontal disease in animals has similar signs as periodontal disease in people.
The main sign you will notice is persistent bad breath. Other signs to look for include:
Loss of appetite.
Red, inflamed gums that may bleed.
Salivating or pawing at the mouth.
Difficulty or pain when eating and chewing.
What does preventive dental care involve?
Preventive dental care involves four important factors:
First, your pet should receive an annual physical examination from your veterinarian to
determine the state of their oral health. If necessary, a dental cleaning will be
recommended to help remove calculus and treat any periodontal disease that is
already present.
Second, you must feed them a high-quality diet. You should use a tartar control
formulation such as Hills Prescription Diet T/D or a high quality life stage diet such as
Science Diet Maintenance, Light or Senior. These diets provide the correct nutritional
balance of protein and minerals to help maintain healthy teeth and gums. Always
check with your veterinarian about which diet to use.
Finally, you should start a regular home brushing program that will help to keep their
teeth and gums free of tartar and periodontal disease.
Brush your pet's teeth!? How do I do that?
The daily brushing process should be introduced slowly. For a dog you will need a
small, child -size, soft toothbrush. For cats, you can use a finger brush or some gauze
wrapped around one of your fingers as an alternative to a toothbrush. You will also
need toothpaste made especially for your pet. Human toothpaste contains ingredients
that are not intended to be swallowed and can therefore make your pet ill if they are
used. For routine brushing, C.E.T. toothpaste is an excellent product available here,
although there are many other products available at other pet stores. If you are not
sure which products to choose, always check with your veterinarian first.
To begin brushing your pet's teeth, it is best to be patient and work slowly to get them
comfortable with the process. Always practice in a relaxed setting, and reward them
with praise, affection, a walk or a food treat after you finish. Try these steps:
Day 1 - Gently touch and stroke their muzzle. Raise the upper lip for about thirty
seconds. Repeat this several times on both sides of the mouth.
Day 2 - Repeat the previous day's step, but now rub your finger against the teeth. Do
this for about 30 seconds on each side of the mouth.
Day 3 - Repeat Day 2. Add 15 seconds.
Day 4 - Try to insert a toothbrush, finger brush or gauze wrapped finger and begin to run
it over your pet's teeth for about 30 seconds on each side of the mouth.
Day 5 - Repeat and increase the time by 15-30 second increments.
Day 6 - Now add a small amount of toothpaste and repeat Day 5.
Day 7 - If this procedure is working well, continue brushing, adding more time to each
session. Aim for a minimum of one minute per side in medium to large dogs, and 30
seconds per side in small dogs and cats.
How often do I need to brush my pet's teeth?
Ideally, a regular brushing program should be done daily to every other day. For
brushing to have any impact at all, it must be done at least three times a week.
However, the more frequently it is done, the more impact it will have on controlling the
build-up of tartar and preventing gum inflammation. This will then help to decrease the
need for more frequent professional dental cleaning.
One final thing when starting a brushing program: make it fun!

with optho or us Discharge Pannus Pannus is a term used to describe a syndrome that
causes a ???fleshy??? type of tissue to accumulate in and on the cornea or surface of
the eye. The disease is seen commonly in certain breeds, namely the German
Shepherd, Belgian Tervuran, Siberian Husky, Australian Shepherd, Border collie, Belgian
Shepherd, Greyhound, and Dachshund. Occasionally other breeds are affected. The
cause of pannus is unknown but certain risk factors, namely ultraviolet light, altitude,
and breed are known to be involved. Most patient respond to topical corticosteroids
or other drugs (cyclosporine A) which suppress the local producing antibodies
directed against the cornea. Control is the key word with this potentially blinding
disease since most patients with pannus MUST continue with some frequency of
topical medications for the remainder of their lives. We might be able to decrease the
frequency of the treatment over time but we will always have to use the medications
to some degree. Follow up visits are very important with this disease so that we can
carefully monitor the progress. If the medication is not effective, we might change to
a different drug to suppress the local antibody reaction. It has been shown that dogs
that will wear UV protection shield as below during peak sunlight of the day have
