Downtown Events -Great Race 2006: -File R-181 x R-140#8 Economic Development Coordinator Stephanie Lovette announced that subsequent to the finish of the Great Race 2006 in San Rafael, the drivers and navigators chose San Rafael as the best overnight city, and for that made a $10,000 donation to the Friends of the Library. She noted the Friends did a tremendous amount of work in welcoming everyone to San Rafael. On behalf of Economic Development Director Nancy Mackie, Ms. Lovette expressed thanks to Joanne Webster, Business Improvement District, Mark Essman, Visitors Bureau, Tallia Hart, Chamber of Commerce and Brian Auger, Special Events Manager, City of San Rafael. Thanking everyone for the excellent job, Chairman Boro stated they traveled through 46 cities and fourteen states in fourteen days, driving 4,100 miles, and he believed San Rafael really did the best job. Concurring, Vice -Chair Phillips stated that everyone involved made the entire event fun, and receiving the $10,000 for the library was most rewarding. He commented that the navigator did an outstanding job directing them all the way from Philadelphia to San Rafael and he thanked everyone who participated. Complimenting Vice -Chair Phillips, Chairman Boro stated that driving a 1931 Model A Ford was quite difficult, especially going up and down hills and trying to achieve speeds in a timely fashion, and more specifically, controlling the car when it ran out of brakes. There being no further business, the San Rafael Redevelopment Agency meeting was adjourned at 8:14 PM. JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Agency Secretary SRRA MINUTES (Regular) 07/17/2006 Page 2
