Title: Fire Chief
OPEN SESSION — COUNCIL CHAMBER — 5:15 PM
Having met in Closed Session, Mayor Boro stated he was pleased to announce that the City Council,
together with the City Manager, unanimously agreed to offer the position of Fire Chief of the City of
San Rafael to Christopher Gray. Terms of Chief Gray's contract were agreed upon in principle and the
City Attorney was instructed to compile the agreement for approval and ratification at the City Council
meeting of August 6, 2007.
Mayor Boro introduced Fire Chief and Mrs. Gray to the City Council and audience.
Fire Chief Gray stated he was looking forward to commencing work with the City of San Rafael on
September 17, 2007. He expressed thanks to Fire Chief John Montenero for introducing him to the City
of Glendale and now to the City of San Rafael.
Indicating it was a great pleasure to join the City of San Rafael, Chief Gray stated he looked forward to
some exciting challenges and becoming part of the San Rafael community and fire family, and he
thanked the City Council and City Manager Ken Nordhoff.
Mayor Boro acknowledged and thanked Fire Chief John Montenero, who had been with the Fire
Department for over two years, for doing such a wonderful job. Acknowledging the presence of two
members of the Police Department command staff and a sergeant, Mayor Boro stated that the San Rafael
Police and Fire Departments worked well and closely together in many instances.
City Clerk Jeanne Leoncini presented Mrs. Gray with a corsage.
Mayor Boro stated that in the interview process, Christopher Gray came out far ahead as a truly well
established member of the fire service, with an impeccable reputation and someone who could hit the
ground running. Indicating there would be a formal swearing-in in September, he wished Chief Gray
well and much success.
ADJOURNMENT: 5:30 PM to a reception in City Hall lobby.
