WHEREAS, Charlie Pick was appointed to the San Rafael Planning Commission on July 2005, and served on
the Planning Commission for 9 years and 10 months; and
WHEREAS, serving as Chair of the Planning Commission in 2009, Charlie was well known for his efficient
and orderly management of Planning Commission meetings and a calm, logical and methodical approach to
reviewing projects and always offered solutions to complex community issues; and
WHEREAS, considered a leader by his fellow Commissioners, Charlie mentored many newly -appointed
Planning Commissioners during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Planning Commission, Charlie contributed to the San Rafael General Plan
2020, the Canal Neighborhood Transportation Plan, the Climate Change Action Plan, the Canalfront Conceptual
Design Plan, the 2011 and 2014 Housing Element Updates, the Downtown Station Area Plan and the Civic
Center Station Area Plan, and comprehensive updates of several City ordinances; and
WHEREAS, also during his tenure, the Planning Commission reviewed numerous projects including: the
Kaiser Emergency Room and parking garage expansion, residential developments at 1203 Lincoln Ave., 524
Mission Ave., and 33 San Pablo, the new science building at Dominican University, the Village at Loch
Lomond Marina, a new VW/Audi dealership, renovation of Peacock Gap Golf Course, renovation of Northgate
Mall, the new Target store, a new science building at Marin Academy, the San Rafael Airport Recreation
Facility, as well as countless other projects; and
WHEREAS, Charlie's participation on the Planning Commission will forever be characterized by his common
sense and logical approach to challenges in formulating recommendations and decision-making on planning
projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
extend their sincere appreciation for the countless contributions Charlie Pick has made to the betterment of the
community and its residents.
