PRINCIPAL HARRIET MACLEAN
WHEREAS, Dr. Harriet MacLean was named Marin County Middle School Principal of the
Year in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Principal MacLean together with staff, students and families has positively
enhanced the public perception of Davidson Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Principal MacLean makes decisions in the best interest of students, moving to
heterogeneous groupings of students, leading to gains in student achievement
for all students and all significant subgroups; and
WHEREAS, Principal MacLean realized significant student achievement gains bringing
Davidson Middle School to an API, exceeding 800, the state's target for all
schools; and
WHEREAS, by developing and implementing restorative practices for student behavioral
referrals, Principal MacLean has reduced student suspension from a high of 375
in 2008-09 to 45 in 2011-12, and fewer than 15 in the first three quarters of 2013;
and
WHEREAS, Principal MacLean is a very valued educational and community leader in San
Rafael, and has been nationally recognized and honored with the American
Association of School Administrators 2013 Women in School Leadership Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San
Rafael do hereby extend their congratulations and appreciation to Principal Harriet MacLean of
Davidson Middle School, and thank Dr. MacLean for her efforts and contributions to the San
Rafael community.
