FIRE COMMISSIONER PETE MARTIN
WHEREAS, Retired Marin County Fire Captain Pete Martin has been a member of the San
Rafael Fire Commission for the past eight years; and
WHEREAS, Fire Commissioner Martin has served the Marin County Fire Service for over 50
years and has been an active member of San Rafael as both a resident and
community leader for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Fire Commissioner Martin provided a "hands-on" fire perspective to the
department providing expertise and assistance with challenges associated with
Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) hazards and firefighting, removal of flammable
vegetation, support of Paramedic Tax measures and pursuit of upgrading critical
facilities; and
WHEREAS, Fire Commissioner Martin represented the Fire Commission and Fire Department
with the FIRESafe Marin Council which was formed in the aftermath of the
Oakland Hills fire in 1991 to promote fire safety and stimulate communities to
collaborate when solving problems related to wildland fire protection to reduce
the likelihood that a similar tragedy would be repeated in Marin; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Martin made a significant difference in the lives of many people in
the greater San Rafael Community through his efforts with wildland fire safety
education and fire prevention, helping not only residents to be better prepared for
tires, but also our firefighters that respond to them.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San
Rafael do hereby commend thank Pete Martin for his many contributions to the
community duri his tenure -ith the City as a Fire Commissioner and wishes him well in all of
his future end ors.
