CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PFIESENTS THIS
RESOUITION DF aPPRECIdTION
TO
THE FRIENDS OF THE SAN RAFAEL PUBLIC LIBRARY
WHEREAS, The Friends of the San Rafael Public Library is an active all -volunteer organization of
library supporters that has played a vital role in our community for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, The Friends' gift of their time and energy to the library sets a shining example of how
positive civic engagement contributes to the betterment of our community; and
WHEREAS, the work of the Friends highlights, on an on-going basis, our library as a cornerstone of
our civic life, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the
ideas of others from ages past and present; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of the San Rafael Public Library operates the Friends Books store and holds
numerous special book sale events throughout the year to raise funds for the library, powered purely by
thousands of volunteer hours and numerous public donations; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of the San Rafael Public Library uses the tens of thousands of dollars it raises
every year to fund library materials and programs, including the Children's Summer Reading Programs, Art
Talks, and more; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of the San Rafael Public Library has strongly advocated for improved services
and a new Library for San Rafael, especially through its tireless work on the Measure C Special Library
Parcel Tax campaign.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael
hereby commend The Friends of the San Rafael Public Library for its many contributions to the community
of San Rafael and urge everyone to join the Friends and show their appreciation and gratitude for all of its
efforts to promote the success of oyr library and our community.
