RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
AUTHORIZING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT FOR
THE PURCHASE OF SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA), has the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program where grants are
awarded to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service
personnel from fire and related hazards; and
WHEREAS, in the month of September, 2011 the City of San Rafael Fire Department
completed an application for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to fund the replacement of the
Fire Department's Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SOBA); and
WHEREAS, on the 17th day of February, 2012 the Assistance to Firefighters Grant
program formally notified the City of San Rafael Fire Department that they had been awarded the
grant for the SOBA replacement; and
WHEREAS, the final grant amount is yet to be determined by the Assistance to
Firefighters Grant program, but is estimated to be approximately $329,316 in funding towards
the purchase of the SOBA.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Rafael City Council approves
Fire Department's acceptance of an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to fund the SCBA
replacement, and authorizes the City Manager of the City of San Rafael to enter into a Grant
Agreement in a form approved by the City Attorney and to receive the grant funds in the name of
the City of San Rafael Fire Department.

Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the City
Council of said City held on Monday, the 19th day of March, 2012 by the following vote. to wit:
