BUSINESS APPRECIATION WEEK
WHEREAS, businesses make up an essential part of the economic health of the City of San Rafael, and there
are more than 10,000 businesses in Marin County that help sustain about 100,000 jobs; and
WHEREAS, these companies and their employees help drive the Marin economy and produce tax -generated
income for local governments; they provide a range of services on which our residents depend;
and support local schools and community based organizations; and
WHEREAS, a business friendly environment is essential to encourage growth -minded companies to stay or
move to our area; and
WHEREAS, small and large businesses together create a strong local economy, provide employment
opportunities, and provide the products and services that are necessary to residents and other
businesses; these businesses generate vitality and add life to the San Rafael community; and
WHEREAS, businesses generate revenue for governmental services including public safety and public
infrastructure such as schools, parks, roads, and cultural attractions; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael supports the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown
Business Improvement District's efforts to strengthen our local economy; and
WHEREAS, businesses, the City of San Rafael, the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown
Business Improvement District work together to promote and strengthen the economic health and
employment base of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael and the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce want to recognize the
contributions of our businesses to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
express their deep appreciation for the important role that local businesses play to create jobs. generate tax revenue
and sustain the economy, and hereby designate May 20-26, 2012 as "Business Appreciation Week" in the City of
San Rafael.
