SAN RAFAEL PLANNING COMMISSIONER
WHEREAS, Maribeth Bushey -Lang was appointed to the San Rafael Planning Commission on December 7, 1998, and
served on the Planning Commission for over 13 ih years; and
WHEREAS, Maribeth served as Chair of the Planning Commission twice, in 2002 and 2010. As Chair, Maribeth was
well known for her efficient and orderly management of Planning Commission meetings; and
WHEREAS, Maribeth attended close to 300 City meetings, always presenting a calm, logical and methodical approach
to reviewing and offering solutions to community issues; and
WHEREAS, Maribeth exhibited the unique ability to: a) condense and summarize Planning Commission consensus on
a project; and b) swiftly craft a resolution to memorialize this consensus. As a quick thinker and leader,
Maribeth mentored many Planning Commissioners appointed during her tenure; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure on the Planning Commission, Maribeth contributed to the long-range planning of the
City through participation in the San Rafael General Plan 2020, the Canal Neighborhood Transportation
Plan, the Climate Change Action Plan, the Canalfront Conceptual Design Plan, the 2011 Housing
Element Update, the Downtown Station Area Plan and the Civic Center Station Area Plan, and
comprehensive updates of the City's Sign Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure, the Planning Commission reviewed numerous important community development
projects which will positively impact the City for many decades including: the San Rafael Corporate
Center, Kaiser Medical Clinic, San Rafael Towne Center, Lone Palm Apartments, Redwood Village, the
Alma Via and Aldersley assisted living projects, the Lincoln Mews residential development at 1515
Lincoln Avenue, the Fasken Office Complex, The Vineyards Office/Industrial Complex at 4300
Redwood Highway, the expansion of the Pickleweed Community Center. Lincoln/Mission
Condominiums, Extended Stay America, 33 North condominiums, renovation of Northgate Mall, Target,
the San Rafael Airport Recreation Facility, as well as countless smaller projects; and
WHEREAS, Maribeth's participation on the Planning Commission will forever be characterized by her common sense
approach to challenges in formulating recommendations and decision-making on planning projects. This
common-sense approach was well acknowledged and appreciated by her fellow Planning Commissioners.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby extend
their sincere appreciation for the countless contributions Maribeth Bushey -Lang has made to the betterment of the
community and its residents.
