TO
SUE BEITTEL
MARIN COMMISSION ON AGING
WHEREAS, Sue Beittel was appointed to the Marin Commission on Aging in November 2007
and faithfully served until her retirement in July 2012. While on the Commission, Sue served in
many capacities including chairing the Housing and Transportation Committee, the Executive
Committee, and being elected Chair of the Commission on Aging in 2011-12; and
WHEREAS, under Sue's leadership, the Commission on Aging issued a "White Paper
Recommendations for Affordable Housing in the County of Marin." Sue has always been an
advocate for affordable housing and livable neighborhoods and worked tirelessly to advocate
for housing opportunities for older adults in Marin County; and
WHEREAS, Sue has been an advocate for safe reliable transportation for older adults and has
given countless hours to transportation oversight, accessibility, and the creation of travel options
for older adults in Marin County. She was instrumental in the passage of Measure B in 2010,
raising approximately $700,000 per year through an annual $10 vehicle registration fee which is
used only for senior and disabled transportation; and
WHEREAS, as Chair, Sue diligently attended committee meetings and many community
meetings, always on hand to clarify issues and provide direction and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Sue has dedicated herself in general to the service of the citizens of San Rafael as
well as Marin County for over 50 years and specifically to the Marin Commission on Aging for
over five years, advocating tirelessly for seniors and disabled people especially those who are
economically challenged.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
extend their sincere appreciation for the countless contributions Sue Beittel has made to the betterment of the
community and its residents.
