CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOWITION OF 11PPRECUITION
TO
DANIEL SONNET
SAN RAFAEL PLANNING COMMISSIONER
WHEREAS, Dan Sonnet was appointed to the San Rafael Planning Commission on July 1, 2007, and served on the
Commission for five (5) years; and
WHEREAS, from January 2011 to January 2012, Dan served as Chair of the Planning Commission. As Chair, Dan
was known for conducting well-managed and orderly Planning Commission meetings. He was patient
and gracious in his approach, providing ample opportunity for public comment and review on
controversial matters; and
WHEREAS, Dan attended 75 City meetings, always presenting a calm and sensitive approach to reviewing and voting
on solutions to community issues; and
WHEREAS, Dan provided a strong voice for San Rafael's neighborhoods, always striving to make sure everyone was
heard. Dan took extraordinary measures to prepare for meetings, analyze the issues and listen to all sides.
Further, as a Commissioner, Dan exhibited an ability to diffuse tense situations with his humor and a
jovial spirit; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Planning Commission, Dan contributed to the long-range planning of the City
through participation in the Climate Change Action Plan, the Canalfront Conceptual Design Plan, the
2011 Housing Element Update, the Downtown Station Area Plan and the Civic Center Station Area Plan,
and the 2010 update of the City's Zoning Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, the Planning Commission reviewed numerous important community development
projects which will positively impact the City for many decades including, but not limited to Kaiser
Medical Clinic garage and Emergency Department, 33 North condominiums, renovation of Northgate
Mall, Guide Dogs for the Blind Renovation, Northgate One Mall renovation, as well as countless smaller
projects; and
WHEREAS, Dan will be remembered for his interest and passion in protecting the San Rafael neighborhoods, the
City's abundant environmental resources, and protecting the general quality of life and character of the
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby extend
their sincere appreciation for the countlecontributions Daniel Sonnet has made to the betterment of the community and
its residents. Al
