HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 13261 (Appreciation Man Minh Phan)RESOLUTION NO. 13261 CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS MAN MINH PHAN WHEREAS, Man Minh Phan immigrated to the United States almost twenty-five years ago, after serving his country of origin as a Captain in the South Vietnamese Army alongside American forces, and spending six years as a prisoner of war; and WHEREAS, Man Phan promoted integration of new immigrants into the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael by founding the Vietnamese -American Friendship Group in 1997 with goals to preserve and share Vietnamese culture, support people in need, teach the Vietnamese language to children thus educating them on the language and customs of their homeland, teaching English to Vietnamese seniors while providing the seniors with a much needed social outlet; and WHEREAS, Man Phan worked for multi -cultural understanding and neighborhood improvements, as a long standing member of the Pickleweed Advisory Board, the Marin County Sheriffs Advisory Board and the Canal Transportation Plan Stakeholders Committee, and served as an Election monitor, a leader of Canal Beautification Projects and neighborhood cleanup days; and WHEREAS, Man Phan volunteered his time and talents to translate neighborhood safety information and community event promotions into Vietnamese and distributed them personally to Vietnamese residents in order to keep them properly informed; and WHEREAS, Man Phan was recognized by the City of San Rafael as Citizen of the Year; and WHEREAS, Man Phan's passion, tireless work ethic and dedication to his community has made him an integral and highly respected leader in San Rafael and the Canal Neighborhood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby extend their sincere appreciation to Mr. Man Minh Phan for his service to San Rafael and wish him good health and much success as he joins his family, relocating to Sacramento.
