CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
IN
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD served as the City Librarian of San Rafael for seven years, demonstrating an
inclusive leadership style which resulted in a period of collaboration with San Rafael's residents,
neighborhood groups, the business community, regional partners, and City employees; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD has consistently comported himself with humor and joy, seemingly at odds with
his innate gravitas; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD worked indefatigably on a broad range of initiatives which benefit virtually every
corner of the San Rafael community, including the passage of Measure C to protect and restore
San Rafael Public Library services, the renovation and HVAC upgrade at the downtown library,
the revitalization of the Marin Literacy Project, the installation of a four-way stop at the
intersection of Mission Avenue and E Street behind the Library (legions of pedestrians thank
him), and the building and successful launch of the Pickleweed Library; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD was a constant supporter of the Friends of the Library's initiative to open an
independent bookstore in San Rafael to support Library programs and services; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD collaborated with community leaders and the Library Foundation to define the
concept and need, and begin the planning process, to build a new library for the community of
San Rafael; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD leaves behind an organization with its vital services intact despite harsh
economic circumstances, a staff well-equipped to deal with the ever-changing information
landscape, and two libraries in a community where before there was only one; and
WHEREAS, DAVID DODD's impact on San Rafael as a whole, its neighborhoods and individual residents
cannot be captured in a few words, however heartfelt, and will not be duplicated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
express their profound gratitude to DAVID DODD for his seven years of compassionate, caring, and inclusive
leadership on behalf of the people who live and work in San Rafael.
