CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOUTION DF IIPPRECIdTION
TO
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS
MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK DAY
WHEREAS,
the League of Women Voters of Marin County has long been a leader in promoting good
government in Marin County; and
WHEREAS,
the League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that has fought since
1920 to improve our system of government and impact public policies through citizen
education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS,
the League of Women Voters of Marin County believes in representative government and
in the individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States; and
WHEREAS,
the League of Women Voters of Marin County has always worked to promote the values
and processes of representative government; and
WHEREAS,
the Marin League collaborates with other organizations to achieve mutual goals, increase
public participation, create lasting change in the community and to `Make Democracy
Work'; and
WHEREAS,
for 90 -years, the League has held the public trust by respectfully bringing elected leaders
and the public together through non-partisan, civil means and through thoughtfully
advancing solutions; and
WHEREAS,
San Rafael and Marin County have benefited tremendously from the countless volunteer
hours donated by League members over its 90 -year history of enhancing our democracy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
proclaim Sunday, February 14, 2010 as "MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK DAY" in the City of San Rafael and
express sincere appreciation to the League of Women Voters for 90 -years of commitment and service.
