PRESENTS THIS
RESOUTION OF i1PPRECUITION
TO
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

WHEREAS,

WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance
of emergency preparedness and to encourage all residents to better prepare themselves
and their families for emergencies and disasters; and
WHEREAS, preparedness is the shared responsibility of the entire community. Individuals can prepare
themselves and their families for emergencies by becoming informed about different
threats and hazards, making a personal preparedness plan, assembling an emergency
supply kit, and getting involved in preparing their community; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael is enhancing its Disaster Council to provide a forum for evaluating
and enhancing interagency communications as well as encouraging coordination of
emergency / disaster response and recovery functions; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael and leaders from the business community have created a Post
Disaster Business Recovery Strategy to address the barriers of disaster recovery and
explore what the City and business community can do to minimize business disruption
and long term or permanent closures; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael is committed to ensuring that City staff are prepared to fulfill their
obligations as Disaster Service Workers through emergency trainings and exercises and
the implementation of State and Federal emergency management programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael continues to improve our community's ability to prepare for
emergencies by offering several exemplary emergency preparedness programs: CERT
and Get Ready; and
WHEREAS, together, City staff and residents can significantly enhance the level of community
preparedness to further safeguard and secure our homeland; and during National
Preparedness Month, we encourage all residents to get themselves and their families
prepared, as well as to be involved in their community's preparedness efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael does
hereby proclaim September 2010 "NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH" in the City of San Rafael and
encourage all San Rafael residents and business owners to make preparedness a priority in their homes, schools, and
businesses.
