PRESENTS THIS
RESOUTION OF iiPPRECUITION
TO
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
PROCLAIMING NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH SEPTEMBER 2009—
WHEREAS,

WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance
of emergency preparedness and to encourage all residents to better prepare themselves
and their families for emergencies; and
WHEREAS, preparedness is the shared responsibility of the entire community. Individuals can
prepare themselves and their families for emergencies by taking simple steps such as
becoming informed about different threats and hazards, making a personal preparedness
plan, organizing an emergency supply kit, and getting involved in preparing their
community. These activities create a culture of preparedness and can help save lives; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael is committed to ensuring that City staff are prepared to fulfill their
obligations as Disaster Service Workers through emergency trainings and exercises and
the implementation of State and Federal emergency management programs, and develops
emergency operations plans and employee emergency procedures guides that support an
effective disaster response; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael continues to improve our community's ability to prepare for
emergencies by offering several exemplary emergency preparedness programs:
Community Emergency Response Team training, Get Ready Household Disaster
Preparedness program, Get Ready 5h Grade, and Spanish Get Ready. The City of San
Rafael has also developed a Community Emergency Preparedness Plan to assist residents
with the development of emergency response teams; and
WHEREAS, together, City staff and residents can significantly enhance the level of community
preparedness to further safeguard and secure our homeland. During National
Preparedness Month, we encourage all residents to get themselves and their families
prepared, as well as to be involved in their community's preparedness efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
proclaim September 2009 "NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH" in the City of San Rafael and encourage all
San Rafael residents and business owners to make preparedness a priority in their homes, schools, and businesses.
