WHEREAS, Maribeth Lang was designated representative ofthe Planning Commission tothe
ConaUfront Advisory Committee as part of the Canalfront Conceptual Design Plan
project; and
WHEREAS. the Cana|hnnt Advisory Committee was responsible for developing o
recommended plan to identify the Bay Trail alignment from the P\oh|ewead
Community Center boPt. San Pedro Road, public access bzand along the Canal,
a crossing between the north and south sides of the Canal, and design guidelines
for new buildings on the waberfront, which it did in collaboration with the
community -at -large; and
WHEREAS, the ConalfrontAdvisory Committee hosted seven focus groups onOctober 1.
2008. held a community workshop in October 2008 to hear ideas for
improvements along the waterfront, held a community workshop in yWenoh 2009
for feedback on three e\bomnadve plans, made 18presentations during summer
2009 for comments on the draft plan, and agreed on short term and long term
actions the City ofSan Rafael should pursue boimplement the community's vision
for the Cono|frnntand
WHEREAS, Maribeth served anavoice for sound planning concepts and asa liaison to the
Planning Commission, helping to engage the community in the planning process;
and
WHEREAS, the Canalfront Advisory Committee's work resulted in a unanimous
recommendation of a conceptual plan and design guidelines that capture the
community's vision for a beautiful and enjoyable pathway around the Canal, and
that focus City actions and inspire the community hoaction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE|TRESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council ofthe City ofSan Rafael hereby commend
Maribeth Long for her knowledge about the ConaKmnt, commitment to community invo|wemont, and enthusiasm for
bringing about an improved quality of life in our town, on behalf of the community and the City of San Rafael.
