CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOUTION OF UPRECIRION
TO
CRAIG THOMAS YATES
WHEREAS, Craig Thomas Yates was designated representative of the Parks & Recreation
Commission to the Canalfront Advisory Committee as part of the Canalfront
Conceptual Design Plan project; and
WHEREAS, the Canalfront Advisory Committee was responsible for developing a
recommended plan to identify the Bay Trail alignment from the Pickleweed
Community Center to Pt. San Pedro Road, public access to and along the Canal,
a crossing between the north and south sides of the Canal, and design guidelines
for new buildings on the waterfront, which it did in collaboration with the
community -at -large; and
WHEREAS, the Canalfront Advisory Committee hosted seven focus groups on October 1,
2008, held a community workshop in October 2008 to hear ideas for
improvements along the waterfront, held a community workshop in March 2009
for feedback on three alternative plans, made 18 presentations during summer
2009 for comments on the draft plan, and agreed on short term and long term
actions the City of San Rafael should pursue to implement the community's vision
for the Canalfront; and
WHEREAS, Craig, as an advocate for parks, recreation, and mobility for all, served as liaison
to the Parks & Recreation Commission and helped with involving people in the
planning process; and
WHEREAS, the Canalfront Advisory Committee's work resulted in a unanimous
recommendation of a conceptual plan and design guidelines that capture the
community's vision for a beautiful and enjoyable pathway around the Canal, and
that focus City actions and inspire the community to action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby commend
Craig Thomas Yates for his knowledge about the Canalfront, commitment to community involvement, and
enthusiasm for bringing about an improved quality of life in our town, on behalf of the community and the City of San
Rafael.
