CITY OF SAN RAFAEL

RANDY CHU
Employee of the Third Quarter of 2009
WHEREAS, Randy Chu is a critical member of the City of San Rafael's Information Technology team, leading
IT's efforts in providing maintenance support for over 400 computers and more than 80 network
printers; and
WHEREAS, Randy embodies IT's customer support ethic by always providing quality service with a smile and
a friendly, "can -do" attitude; and
WHEREAS, Randy coordinates the IT help desk, personally working on over 170 service requests in the last 3
months and assisting other team members with a multitude of other tasks; and
WHEREAS, Randy also completed several special projects including uninstalling and then re -installing all
computer systems as part of the renovation of the Police Dispatch area, assisting with the
implementation of a new red light camera system, and troubleshooting communication problems
at the Pickleweed library's computer lab; and
WHEREAS, Randy is always approachable and willing to go the extra mile to make sure users are not
intimidated by technology and that their requests are handled as quickly as possible; and
WHEREAS, Randy encourages teamwork by sharing new technical solutions with others on the IT team,
training others with less experience in a patient and supportive manner, and helping set the mood
by turning on the music when needed most; and WHEREAS, Randy's continual enthusiasm is
also evident in his willingness to volunteer his own personal time to help out with events like this
year's Employee Appreciation Luncheon, the annual Bocce tournament, and City Hall's
Halloween potluck; and.
WHEREAS, Randy is described by co-workers as "personable, friendly, very knowledgeable about his work,
reliable and dependable, open and receptive, and patient and team -oriented."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby
designate Randy Chu as the "Employee of the Quarter" for the third quarter of 2009, and express sincere
appreciation for his dedication, professionalism, and outstanding service to the City of San Rafael.
