HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 12551 (Appreciation Andrew Preston)!S RESOLUTION NO. 12551 CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESMUTION OF dPPRECIATION TO ANDREW J. PRESTON WHEREAS, Andy has been a valued employee of the City of San Rafael and the Department of Public Works since January 5, 1981, when Ronald Reagan was President, gasoline was $1.38 a gallon and Andy's comb was more than just a fond memory; and WHEREAS, Andy's path through the byzantine world of Public Works began with his appointment as a valued but lowly Assistant Civil Engineer and culminated with his 2003 appointment as the 7th Public Works Director in San Rafael's 135 -year history; and WHEREAS, in his 27 years of estimable service to San Rafael's citizens Andy has touched literally every part of the City, from the Canal to Loch Lomond to Sun Valley, from Bret Harte to Terra Linda to the West End, and all points in between; and WHEREAS, Andy has been part of mysterious, unexplainable projects buried deep underground; projects that solved decades old flooding problems; projects that assure the accessibility and safety of motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists alike; projects that have beautified and revitalized neighborhoods; and projects that, in the shadowy world of the San Rafael Sanitation District, keep "it" flowing in the direction "it" should; and WHEREAS, these projects include, but are by no means limited to: Andersen Drive; the East Francisco Boulevard Stormwater Pump Station; Parkside Childcare; Public Works World Headquarters; Pickleweed Community Center; Downtown Sidewalk Improvements; Medway/Canal Undergrounding and Streetscape Enhancements; Mahon Creek Improvements; 2 d 3rd & A St. Undergroundin%, multiple Safe Routes to Schools projects; the Caltrans 101/Central San Rafael Widening Project; the current 4 St./West End Village project and many, many others too numerous to mention; and WHEREAS, Andy has represented San Rafael on veritable alphabet soup committees and groups with a county -wide impact, again including but not limited to: MPWA (Marin Public Works Association); TAM (Transportation Authority of Marin); Army Corps of Engineers; RWQCB (Regional Water Quality Control Board); BCDC (Bay Conservation Development Corporation); MCBC (Marin County Bicycle Coalition); MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission); NTPP (Non -Motorized Transportation Pilot Program); and WHEREAS, Andy Preston has served the City of San Rafael with enthusiasm and flair, and has well represented the community and Council for more than a quarter of a century. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby acknowledge Andy's excellent work and congratulate him on his retirement, and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
