HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 12624 (Appreciation Fire Captain Kenneth Martin)RESOLUTION NO. 12624 CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTS THIS RESOUTION OF iiPPRECIdTION TO FIRE CAPTAIN KENNETH MARTIN WHEREAS, Fire Captain Kenneth Martin and Fire Captain James Hufford were travelling off- duty in a rural area of Tehama County, Northern California; and WHEREAS, on Friday, October 31, 2008, they came upon a small pickup truck off the road that had crashed into a tree; and WHEREAS, a young man at the scene told them his hunting companion was injured and trapped in the vehicle and further investigation confirmed the man was severely entangled in the metal wreckage and that his injuries were life threatening; and WHEREAS, James Hufford responded to obtain assistance with the remote area lacking cell phone reception as Kenneth Martin stayed with the injured victim and worked with continued determination to disentangle the young man making progress by using his bare hands and small tools; a tire iron, a small axe, and a borrowed socket set; and WHEREAS, 30 minutes following their arrival on scene, a Cal Fire Type III Engine and crew arrived and in another 5 minutes a Tehama County Sheriff arrived. Kenneth continued helping the local agencies until the extrication was complete; and WHEREAS, Kenneth Martin demonstrated the core value of fire service—leadership—and exemplified our San Rafael Fire Department's— "Our Mission is to Help." NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael thank Captain Kenneth Martin for his skill, persistence, and determination that reduced the amount of time for the rescue and contributed to this life saving assistance. ril-e /0--14 MAYOR 4 OU CIL MEMBERS p CFY ANAOER AT �ESTEY MY HAND THIS DAY OF
