RESOLUTION NO. 12202
CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOhDTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
COLEMAN PERSILY
WHEREAS, Coleman Persily helped empower low income residents of San Rafael from 1960 until
his passing on February 7, 2007 by:
+ Playing a primary role in organizing the Canal Community Alliance and serving as
its first Chair; and
+ Helping organize support for the building of the original Pickleweed Park
Community Center; and
+ Advocating for affordable rental housing by organizing the Tenants Association of
Marin; and
+ Advocating for affordable rent and rent control ordinances in mobilehome parks in
San Rafael and throughout Northern California, as a Board Member of the Contempo
Marin Mobilehome Owners' Association and Regional Director and Vice President
of the Golden State Mobilehome Owners' League; and
+ Volunteering to serve on the ACLU Hotline serving residents whose rights were
being violated; and
+ Campaigning as a candidate for city council, mayor and state assembly so that he
could raise issues of importance for low-income residents rather than to win
elections; and
WHEREAS, Coleman Persily earned the respect and admiration of even those who did not agree with
him because of his integrity, sincerity and humor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael
hereby thank Coleman Persily, posthumously, for his 47 years of service as a resident of San Rafael and
also express their condolences to his family and friends. The Mayor and City Council extend their
gratitude to Coleman's lifelong partner, Pearl, for supporting and sharing him with our community over
these many years.
