HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 12028 (Marin County School Volunteers Month)RESOLUTION NO. 12028 RESOLUTION OF THE Say: Rafael City Council COMMENDING THE MARIN COUNTY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS AND PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, 2006 AS MARIN COUNTY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS' MONTH WHEREAS, the Marin County School Volunteers, with the support of the Marin County Office of Education has, since 1997, trained and placed volunteers in schools to enable students to gain the basic academic skills needed for success; and WHEREAS, as Marin County School Volunteers begins its Tenth Year, it proudly acknowledges the more than 1600 community volunteers who have given 143,000 hours to 16,000 students at a volunteers' hourly value of $2,600,000.00, and WHEREAS, this program aims to help all students become successful students by continuing to train and support volunteer tutors, to match tutors with learners for instruction, to assist schools in developing on-site volunteer friendly programs, to offer Mann's citizens a meaningful way to volunteer, and to develop awareness of and support for public education's need for equity in educational opportunities for every student. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of San Rafael commends the Marin County School Volunteers for their work on behalf of the residents of the City of San Rafael and the County of Marin and declares September, 2006, as Marin County School Volunteers' Month. I, JEANNE M.
