JESSUINA PEREZ-TERAN
WHEREAS, Jessuina Perez-Teran has been active in San Rafael as an organizer of the
Marin Tenants Union, and working in the Canal neighborhood on issues of
habitability, tenants' rights, and community involvement for over six years;
and
WHEREAS, in September, 2005, Jessuina was appointed by the San Rafael City Council
to the Canal Stakeholder Committee, which was charged with preparing a
recommended Transportation Plan for the Canal neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Jessuina served as an advocate for Canal residents who walk and ride the
bus, sharing her knowledge of the issues of people who live in the
neighborhood, and who walk and commute by bus to their jobs; and
WHEREAS, in addition to attending the Stakeholder Committee meetings, Jessuina
contributed many hours to translate critical written information, mentored
community members about transportation issues, and provided transportation
for two committee members to the Stakeholder Committee meetings; and
WHEREAS, Jessuina dedicated a year to a community-based planning effort to working
with Canal residents and business leaders to identify transportation concerns
and recommended improvements that will improve the quality of life in the
Canal neighborhood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council hereby express
sincere appreciation and gratitude to Jessuina Perez-Teran for her substantial contributions to
prepare the Canal Transportation Plan.
