CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOMITION OF dPPRECIRTION
TO
MICHAEL WHIPPLE
San Rafael Planning Commissioner
WHEREAS, Mike Whipple was appointed to the San Rafael Planning Commission on
November 1, 1999, and has served on the Planning Commission for five and a half years;
and
WHEREAS, Mike served as Chair of the Planning Commission in 2003, presiding over 22
regular meetings of the Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure the Planning Commission reviewed many important projects
which will positively impact the City for many decades including Redwood Village, Chapel
Cove subdivision, the Alma Via, Merrydale and Aldersley assisted living projects, the Lofts
at Albert Park, the conversion of the El Camino Building, Lincoln Mews, the McInnis
Apartments, the Fasken office project, 4300 Redwood Highway, 171-181 Third Street,
Lexus of Marin, Sonnen BMW, Team GM, rehabilitation of the San Rafael Improvement
Club building, upgrades to the Marin Academy campus, the Parkside Childcare Center,
expansion of the Pickleweed Community Center and the Loch Lomond Marina Village, as
well as countless variances, exceptions and use permits; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure the Planning Commission also reviewed numerous ordinance
upgrades, including a rewrite of the Noise Ordinance, the Sign Ordinance, the Subdivision
Ordinance, the Telecommunications Ordinance, Second Unit Regulations, the Vessel
Sanitation and Dock Safety Ordinance, the Public Hearing Notification revisions and the
Single Family Design Review modifications; and
WHEREAS, Mike's participation on the Planning Commission was characterized by his
expertise and perspective as a developer and a business owner, and his great attention to
detail;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of
San Rafael hereby extend their sincere appreciation for the contribution Mike Whipple has
made to the betterment of the Community and its residents.
