WHEREAS, Robin Levy has been a dynamic and passionate advocate
for the cause of adult literacy since 1990, and
WHEREAS, her initial commitment as a volunteer tutor led her to ever-
more -responsible positions within the Marin Literacy Program. In 1993, Robin became
Coordinator of Families for Literacy for the Marin Literacy Program, and served in that
position until June of 1998; and
WHEREAS, for the past seven years, Robin has served as Development
Coordinator (raising well over one million dollars for the program) and Co -Director for
the Marin Literacy Program, during which time the program grew tremendously: from
368 students in July, 1998 and a budget of $237,210 to a projection of over 900
students in June, 2005 and a budget of $510, 000, and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael owes a debt of gratitude for the
countless hours Robin has put in during the course of her "part-time"job, which have
resulted in a full spectrum of literacy programs active throughout Marin County,
including Inmate Literacy Services, Family Literacy Services, the FLAGship, and a
consistent approach to the use of technology; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure, Robin was very active in the planning of
the Pickleweed Library, in addition to managing public relations, editing the program
newsletter and student book, and organizing the Literacy Advisory Board, and
WHEREAS, Robin knows how to build a strong team, and will always,
when she is thanked or acknowledged in public, immediately turn to acknowledge and
thank the staff, Board, volunteers, and students of the Literacy Program, and give them
all the credit for the success of the program.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Mayor and
City Council of the City of San Rafael hereby thank Robin Levy for dedicated service
and hardworkbehalf the San Rafael community.
