A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PROCLAIMING
NOVEMBER 13-19,2005 AS HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK IN SAN
RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, for the past several years the National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student
Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness has sponsored National Hunger and Homelessness
Awareness Week; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council would like to educate the residents of San Rafael about the
many reasons people are hungry and homeless, including the shortage of affordable housing in San Rafael
for low and very low income residents; and to encourage support for homeless assistance service
providers as well as community service opportunities for students and school service organizations; and
WHEREAS, there are many commendable organizations in San Rafael and Marin County committed to
sheltering, providing supportive services as well as meals and food supplies to the homeless including:
Homeward Bound of Marin, Ritter House, St. Vincent's Dining Hall and Marin Community Food Bank, -
and
WHEREAS, the national theme of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week 2005 is
"Bringing America Home," and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council recognize that hunger and homelessness continue to be serious
problems for many individuals and families in San Rafael and Marin County.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Rafael does hereby
proclaim November 13-19, 2005 as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council encourages all residents to recognize that many
people do not have housing and need support and assistance from the private, public and not for profit
service entities, as well as the San Rafael community.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution
was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of said City on the
17th day of October, 2005, by the following vote, to wit:
