RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
APPROVING A SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS GRANT APPLICATION AND
TRAFFIC CALMING AND INFORMATION DEVICES AT BAHIA VISTA AND
VALLECITO SCHOOL AREAS.
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools Program is to increase awareness and
number of children walking and biking to school, and
WHEREAS, based on Safe Routes to Schools education program and field observation
additional traffic calming programs were identified, and funding can be obtained through
grants available, and City's funding match will be up to 10% of the total cost, and
WHEREAS, pedestrian crossing improvement is a high priority and new curb
extensions in front of Bahia Vista School on Bahia Way and at the intersection of Bahia Way
and Canal Street will improve children safety, and
WHEREAS, pedestrian improvement devices, speed warning signs, curb extensions in
front of Valecito School on Nova Albion Way will improve children safety, therefor;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AND RESOLVED that the
Director of Public Works is authorized to apply for such grants and program the funded
projects in the Capital Improvement Program.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Public Works is hereby
authorized to take any and all such actions and make changes as may be necessary to
accomplish the purpose of this resolution.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, City Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that
the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular meeting
of the Council of said City held on the 17th day of February, 2004, by the following vote, to
wit:
