HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Resolution 11603 (Major Crimes Task Force)RESOLUTION NO. 11603 RESOLUTION OF THE SAN RAFAEL CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SEND ONE POLICE OFFICER TO THE MARIN COUNTY MAJOR CRIMES TASK FORCE AS THE VEHICLE THEFT INVESTIGATOR AND TO HIRE ONE REPLACEMENT POLICE OFFICER USING THE BACKFILL FUNDS FROM THE COUNTY Whereas, there is currently an opening with the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force for the position of Vehicle Theft Investigator; and, Whereas, this position is fully funded through vehicle registration surcharges allowing for the contributing agency to backfill the police officer sent to the Task Force; and, Whereas, this position is generally rotated every three years allowing for valuable career growth opportunities for police officers; and, Whereas, the majority of vehicle theft crimes in Marin County occur in the San Rafael area; and, Whereas, the citizens of Marin County will be competently served by having a San Rafael police officer familiar with vehicle theft crimes that affect all of Marin County; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council approves the Police Department to send one police officer to the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force as the Vehicle Theft Investigator and authorizes the Police Department to hire one additional police officer as backfill using the fully funded reimbursement supplied by the County of Marin and collected by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles through vehicle registration surcharges.
