CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOWITION OF RPPREEIRTION
TO
VAUGHN STRATFORD
WHEREAS, Vaughn Stratford began his employment with the City of San Rafael on
August 3, 1981 as the Director of the Library and Cultural Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Vaughn was the first department head in the City of San Rafael to embrace
technology and introduce computers for staff use. Vaughn was a Founding Director of the
MARINet Consortium, which benefits all library users within the County of Marin, and which
saved the City of San Rafael well over a million dollars in the cost of a stand-alone catalogue and
circulation system. The San Rafael Library was the first library in Marin County to circulate
videos to the public, and now has the best audio/CD/video/DVD collection of any library in
Marin; and
WHEREAS, Vaughn has consistently hired excellent staff to provide exemplary service to the
citizens of San Rafael, of whom 30,000 have library cards. His dedication to Children's Services
and support of the Marin Literacy Program will be greatly missed.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby expresses its heartfelt
appreciation for Vaughn's dedication and many contributions to the City of San Rafael and it's
residents.
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council wishes Vaughn a long and happy
retirement, and joy in his life's new endeavors.
