CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF III PRECUITION\
TO
MICHAEL J. CRONIN
WHEREAS, Michael J. Cronin has been a member of the San Rafael Police Department since 1976, after
serving as a Marin County Deputy Sherifor two years, following six years of service to his country as a member of
the United States Army, and
WHEREAS, Mike has served the citizens of San Rafael as a Patrol Officer, Detective, Corporal, Field
Training Officer, Hostage Negotiator, Sergeant, Lieutenant, SWAT Commander, Commander, Captain and Chief of
Police, and
WHEREAS, Mike has played an integral role and has had a positive influence upon the numerous work
units to which he was assigned, and upon those he has supervised and managed, • and
WHEREAS, Mike's leadership and management abilities were fully realized with his promotion to Chief of
Police in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Mike has displayed optimism and enthusiasm for his work throughout his career, always
encouraging colleagues and subordinates. His humor, sharp wit and positive attitude have been an inspiration to
all. His compassion for people has been the driving force behind his administration. His philosophy of " the people
are our customers" has been central to the manner in which those under his command carry out their duties; and
WHEREAS, Mike has made numerous contributions to the present and future success of the San Rafael
Police Department, among them are his revision of the Field Training Program, the restructuring of the Detective
Bureau, the implementation of the three/ twelve work schedule for patrol officers, the use ofpeer evaluations in the
promotion process, and implementation of the county's first fully integrated Computer Aided Dispatch, Records
Management and Field Reporting System; and
WHEREAS, Mike is retiring after twenty-eight years of service to the City of
San Rafael.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of San Rafael City Council and staff hereby extend their
gratitude to Michael J. Cronin for his dedication, commitment and contributions to the City and wish him every
success in the future. ,
