TO
MEHDI (MIKE) MADJD-SADJADI
WHEREAS, Mike Sadjadi is retiring as the Director of Public Works of Marin County,
California, on March 28, 2003, after a long and illustrious career of service to the citizens of that County;
and
WHEREAS, Mike's distinguished career with Marin County began in 1971 as an Assistant Civil
Engineer, from which he advanced to the positions of Associate and Senior Engineer, Chief Building
Official, Deputy Director, and finally Director of Public Works which he managed capably and skillfully
over the last 15 years; and
WHEREAS, during Mike's tenure as Public Works Director, his department has been honored for
its achievements in the areas of prevention of stormwater pollution, increasing recycling, and formation of
an Urban Search and Rescue Team in anoint Fire Department/Public Works Department emergency effort,
as well as completion of a number of innovative and significant public projects, such as Whites Hill bridge
west of Fairfax (the longest single span west of the Mississippi River), and the $20 million seismic retrofit
of the Marin County Civic Center, its lighting retrofit, and the restoration of its landmark blue roof and
golden spire; and
WHEREAS, Mike's greatest accomplishment by far has been his example and leadership abilities,
demonstrated by the commitment, interest, and encouragement he has shown to the employees of his
department, and
WHEREAS, Mike has been a good friend to the cities in Marin County and in particular to the
Public Works Directors of each city serving as a role model and mentor; and
WHEREAS, Mike has always looked to the good of the community at large and has encouraged
collegiality, cooperation, and professionalism between all jurisdictions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael
hereby commends Mike Sadjadi for his conscientious and distinguished service to the citizens of Marin
County and wishes him a long and happy reti ment and wish im eve success in the future.
