A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE SAN
FRANCISCO FOUNDATION FOR $17,500 FOR A SCHOOL YEAR
COMPONENT OF THE SUMMER OF PEACE PROGRAM
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL RESOLVES as follows:
WHEREAS, in 2001 the City of San Rafael cosponsored the Summer of Peace,
a cooperative summer program serving youth and teens in the Canal
community; and
WHEREAS, the program served over 300 Canal community teens in
recreational, social, and vocational programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael has agreed to be the fiscal agent and accept
donations, gifts and grant funds to be used in the operation of the program;
and
WHEREAS, the Summer of Peace program has gained additional resources and
formed new partnerships in preparation for the summer of 2002, and has
garnered input from the community from which the programs will be
developed; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the program is to establish a year-round program with
program offerings during the school year and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes a grant
application to the San Francisco Foundation for $17,500 for development of a
school year component of the Summer of Peace program.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a
regular meeting of the Council of said City held on Monday, the 17th day of
JUNE, 2002, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Heller, Miller, and Phillips, Mayor Pro tem
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: Vice -Mayor Cohen and Mayor Boro
