CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
THE MARIN LITERACY PROGRAM
AND PROCLAIMS SEPTEMBER 1" TO SEPTEMBER 7TH
AS MARIN LITERACY WEEK
WHEREAS, the Marin Literacy Program, a joint program of the San Rafael Public
Library and the Marin County Free Library has, since 1985, offered adults the opportunity
to improve their reading, writing and conversation skills thereby enabling them to secure
employment, to provide for the needs of their families and to be functioning citizens of the
community; and
WHEREAS, this program aims to continue to train and support volunteer tutors, to
match tutors with learners for instruction, to empower parents to become their child's first and
most important teacher, to develop cross-cultural awareness that creates a sense of community,
and to continue to make a difference in the lives of children and adults by enabling students to
become self -fulfilled, productive citizens who will make learning a life-long process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the City Council of the
City of San Rafael commend the Marin Literacy Program staff, tutors and affiliates for their
work on behalf of the residents of the County of Marin and declares the week of September 1 to
September 7, 2002 as Marin Literacy Week.
