—WHEREAS, the Richard P. O'Brien Citizen of the year .Award is inter fed to acknowledge
residents of San RafaeCwho, through their dedu atedandselfless efforts, have hada
signiftcant effect on the quality of Cfe in their community; and
-9fER'E.AS, Sue Beittefhas been selectedas the first recipient of this awarddue to her
community involvement andaccompCuhments in the areas of education, landuse and
transportationplanning, andenvironmentafprotection; and
-WHEREAS, Sue has been a resident of San RafaeCfor over 40 years; and
W IEPMAS, Sue has promoted quaCty education for her community by serving on the San
RafaeCSchooCBoardfor eight years, chaired the CaCsfornia Commission on VocationaC
Education, servedon the Finance Committee for the CaCfornia SchooCBoards .Association,
was a founding member of the Narin Education legislative ?ask Force, was a boardmember
of the Narin EducationFundandcoordtnatedseveraCeducationalconferences on education
for handu appedchildren, human relations andschooCfinances, and
WHEREAS, Sue has been an informedandreasonedvoice in community discussions about
Canduse andtransportation issues, including serving on the Boardof the League of Women
"Voters of Marin County, on the Conservation Committee of the Marin .Audubon Society, on
the Transportation Committee of the Marin Conservation League, on citizen committees for
the San RafaeCGeneraCPCan, Countywide Plan andSt. Vincent's/SiCvieraproperties, and
WME2tTM, Sue has been an active representative of her neighborhoodby serving for many
years on the North San RafaeCCoalition of Residents; and
WMERE.71S, Sue's community involvement has been characterizedby thorough
investigation of complex issues, a fair mindedbaCancing of interests with a focus on the
greater community good andsustainedinterest andactive involvement,

appreciation of Sue BeitteCs efforts on behalf of her community andhereby awards her the
Richard P. O'Brien Citizen of the year .Award
