RESOLUTION NO. 11186
CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
TO
KAREN O'ROURKE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL RESOLVES as follows:
WHEREAS, Karen O'Rourke has been an employee of the City of San Rafael since July 1, 1974 and
holds the longest tenure with the Community Services Department, working under five City
Managers, six Department Directors, four Police Chiefs, two City Clerks and one Fire Chief; and
WHEREAS, Karen has worked in offices at City Hall, Falkirk Mansion, and as original staff to the San
Rafael Community Center; and has held the positions of Clerk, Typist Clerk I & II, Clerk Cashier I &
II, Senior Typist Clerk and Administrative Assistant II; and
WHEREAS, Karen was named the Employee of the Year in 1988 for her outgoing personality,
reliability and dedication to her job; and is highly valued for her excellent customer service, and
WHEREAS, Karen was Union Shop Steward for Community Services for 26 years; was the First Aide
Instructor for Recreation Employees; and was assigned by the City to assist in the Oakland Fire Relief
efforts due to her training; and
WHEREAS, Karen has supplemented her career duties with volunteer contributions as Little League
President, an appointee by the County Board of Supervisors on the Drug and Alcohol Board, a
founding member of the Bocce Federation Board, Goldenaires Senior Club Social Event Assistant,
Trip Chaperone, Theater Production Assistant and Cast Member, Activity Leader for
Developmentally Disabled Children and as a member of countless Department event production
teams; and
WHEREAS, Karen will be sorely missed by the public she serves and those who serve with her;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael
recognize Karen O'Rourke for 28 years of faithful service to the City of San Rafael and congratulate
her on her retirement.
