RECOMMENDATION: Support Small Business Week. BACKGROUND: The City of San Rafael partners with the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the role of small business in our community. Small businesses are the backbone of the local and regional economy in San Rafael and Marin County. The City of San Rafael joins the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Improvement District in support of our many local small businesses and recognizes May 1-7, 2016 as Small Business Week in San Rafael. As part of Small Business Week, the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce will provide a brief presentation on its `Business Retention and Expansion Survey' program. The City of San Rafael also would like to recognize the valuable training and other resources provided by the many business support organizations located in San Rafael such as the Marin Small Business Development Center (part of the Small Business Administration), Working Solutions, Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), Canal Alliance, Sparkpoint Marin, Marin Employment Connection, and local education partners such Dominican University and the College of Marin. FISCAL IMPACT: None. OPTIONS: 1) Adopt the Resolution of Appreciation. 2) Direct Staff to Modify the Resolution of Appreciation. 3) Refuse to Adopt the Resolution of Appreciation. FOR CITY CLERK ONLY File No.: 102 Council Meeting: 05/02/2016 Disposition: Resolution 14109 RESOLUTION 14109 CITY OF SAN RAFAEL PRESENTSTHIS RESOWTION OF KPPRECUITION Wk • ►A WHEREAS, Small Businesses make up an essential part of the economic health of the City of San Rafael and contribute to the vibrancy of life in San Rafael; and WHEREAS, Small Businesses help create a strong local economy, provide valuable products and services to residents and businesses, and provide employment and leadership opportunities; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael supports the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the San Rafael Business Improvement District, all of which are highly successful resources, supporting and advocating for San Rafael Small Businesses; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael congratulates the Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year nominees — 101 Surf Sports, City Carpets, CPI Real Estate Management & Development, Fenix, Italian Street Painting Marin, Minto & Wilkie Insurance Agency, Northbay Biz Magazine, Perfect Timing Personnel Services, Peter Levi Plumbing, and Sun First Solar; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael appreciates the valuable training and other resources provided by the many Small Business support organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Business Improvement District, Marin Small Business Development Center (part of the Small Business Administration), Working Solutions, Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), Canal Alliance, Sparkpoint Marin, Marin Employment Connection, and education partners such Dominican University and College of Marin; and WHEREAS, the City of San Rafael and the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce want to recognize the contribution of Small Businesses to the San Rafael community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Rafael designate May 1-7, 2016 as Small Business Week and express sincere appreciation for the contributions of the Chamber of Commerce, the Iispanic Chamber, the Business Improvement District, and all Small Businesses within the City of San R fael.
