ORDINANCE NO. 1541
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1522
TO PROVIDE FOR AN INCREASE IN COMPENSATION FOR CITY COUNCIL
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
DIVISION 1. Section 36516(a) of the California Government Code (amended
in 1984, effective in 1985) provides that the compensation of Councilmembers in a
City the size of San Rafael may be set at $400 per month by Ordinance. Section
36516(c) further provides that compensation of Councilmembers may be increased
beyond the amount provided by an amendment to an Ordinance but the amount of the
increase may not exceed an amount equal to 5 percent for each calendar year from
the operative date of the last adjustment of the salary in effect when the
Ordinance was enacted. Section 36516.1 of the California Government Code provides
that an elected Mayor may receive additional compensation above that provided to
Councilmembers. The previous salary adjustment for the Council and Mayor was
operative as of January 1, 1986, as provided for in Ordinance No. 1522.
DIVISION 2. As of January 1, 1988, the Mayor shall receive $649 per
month and each Councilmember shall receive $433 per month. This compensation
shall be paid in the same manner as paid to other officers and employees of the
City of San Rafael.
DIVISION 3. This Ordinance shall be published once in full before its
final passage in a newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated in
the City of San Rafael, and shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days
after its final passage.

The foregoing Ordinance No. 1541 was read and introduced at a Regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of San Rafael, held on the 1st day of
February , 1988, and ordered passed to print by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: Boro, Breiner, Frugoli, Thayer and Mayor Mulryan
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
and will come up for adoption as an Ordinance of the City of San Rafael at a
Regular meeting of the Council to be held on the 16th day of February , 1988,
