RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT THE CITY OF SAUSALITO'S REQUEST FOR
APPROPRIATE FUTURE USE OF FORT BAKER
WHEREAS, the National Park Service is proposing a conference and retreat center of
up to 350 rooms for the fragile Fort Baker site; and
WHEREAS, that is larger than any hotel facility in all of Marin County; and
WHEREAS, plans also call for the expansion of the Bay Area Discovery Museum to
double in size, in addition of various other concessions around the park site; and
WHEREAS, the mission statement of the National Park Service states that "the
fundamental purpose of all units of the National Park Service is to conserve the scenery
and natural historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of
the same in such a manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the
enjoyment of this and future generations."
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the future use of Fort Baker should be
evaluated through the lens of the National Park Service mission statement.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Council of said City on the 22nd day of February, 2000 by the following
vote, to wit:

NOES: COUNCIL MEMBERS : None
