RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 15, 1999 AMERICA RECYCLES DAY IN
THE CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
WHEREAS, each year Americans generate more the 217 million tons of municipal solid
waste, this is more the 4.4 pounds per person per day. The nation has reached an
overall recycling rate of more then 28 percent (51.2 percent in Marin County); and
WHEREAS, focusing the nation's attention on the importance of recycling and closing
the loop; businesses, industries, governmental agency, nonprofit organizations and
individuals have joined together to celebrate America Recycles Day. They are
encouraging their employers, staff, customers, membership and all citizens to pledge to
buy more recycled content products starting on November 15; and
WHEREAS, participating in America Recycles Day is one way citizens can help raise
awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing, recycling and buying recycled
products; and
WHEREAS, the theme of America recycles Day is "For Our Children's Future ... Buy
Recycled Today"; and
WHEREAS, state and community leaders need to spread the word about the excellent
programs they have established, the growth of markets for recyclable materials and the
importance of buying recycled products; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of San Rafael
does hereby proclaim Monday, November 15, 1999 as America Recycles Day in the
City of San Rafael.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a regular
meeting of the Council of said City on the 15`h day of November , 1999 by the following
vote, to wit:
