A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN RAFAEL RECONFIRMING THE CITY COUNCIL'S
ENDORSEMENT OF MEASURES A AND B.
WHEREAS: increasing traffic on Highway 101 and on local streets is adversely
affecting the quality of life in Marin and,
WHEREAS: the people of Marin have made clear their opposition to construction
of new highways or widening of highway 101 except to eliminate bottlenecks and,
WHEREAS: the people of Marin have shown consistent support for transpiration
alternatives to the automobile and for linking transportation improvements to restrictions
on development and,
WHEREAS: the difficulty of predicting future transportation trends underscores the
importance of providing alternative modes of transportation and,
WHEREAS: the allocation of funding in Measure A on the November ballot is
consistent with the expressed desires of the people of Marin to address bottlenecks along
the Highway 101 corridor and inadequate maintenance of local roads while providing
transportation alternatives to the automobile in the form of local bus, enhanced paratransit
and commuter rail services, and improved bicycle paths and,
WHEREAS: the allocation of funding in Measure A on the November ballot is
further consistent with the expressed desire of the people of Marin in providing funding for
the protection of environmentally sensitive areas from inappropriate development and,
WHEREAS: the Y 2 cent sales tax increase for a period not to exceed 20 years in
Measure B on the November ballot is needed to implement the program of transportation
improvements and environmental protections proposed in Measure A,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of San Rafael
endorses Measures A and B on the November 1998 ballot.
I, JEANNE M. LEONCINI, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a reaular
meeting of the City Council of said City held on Mondav the 21st day of September.
