CITY OF SAN RAFAEL
PRESENTS THIS
RESOLUTION DF dPPRECIdTION
TO
WALTER G. THOMPSON
WHEREAS, Walter G. Thompson of W. G. Thompson, Inc., started his painting
business with his father in the early 1920's in San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, this firm has painted such well known buildings as the Transamerica
Pyramid, the Civic Auditorium, the Golden Gate Center, the Hyatt
Regency Embarcadero Center, and the Marin County Civic Center; and
WHEREAS, they also painted so many grammar and high schools that Walter became
known as "School House Thompson"; and
WHEREAS, Walter and his wife have seven children, all of whom were raised
in Marin County, 52 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Walter has been active in many charities in Marin County; and
WHEREAS, on September 12, 1991, at the Annual Construction Industry Night,
Walter was honored as Construction Industry Man of the Year, receiving
the annual Lou Della Valle Construction Industry Award in recognition
of his contributions to the industry and the community of Marin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of San Rafael joins with the
members of the Marin Builders Exchange in honoring Walter for his
many achievements in the building industry and his generous
contributions to his community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Rafael on
behalf of its citizens hereby pays tribute to Walter G. Thompson.
