Fifteen applications were received in the City Clerk's Office by the deadline of Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Due to the high volume of applications received, a subcommittee of the City Council carried out an initial review of the fifteen applications and selected seven applicants to be interviewed by the full City Council. ACTION: Approve staff recommendation. A vibrant downtown, fostering new businesses and retaining existing businesses, and housing availability and affordability will persist to be key issues. I have watched businesses come and go on 4th Street and read articles in the Marin IJ regarding city support for business longevity and growth. We all want a vibrant downtown. We currently have an issue on Locust Avenue with the Dominican Sisters wanting to provide space for transition housing and some neighbors fighting that plan. see this as symptomatic of the problems the county as a whole is facing. With professional expertise in both finance and real estate, I believe I can continue to make important contributions to the work of the Committee. To date, I have been able to contribute by serving as the Committee chairperson for two years (1993-94), as well as on the Rafael Theater and PG&E site subcommittees, the Andersen Drive design subcommittee, the Macy's developer selection committee, and with the Committee as a whole on the downtown station area plan. 3. As a resident of San Rafael and as an owner of downtown property, I take a strong interest in the economic development and affordable housing issues facing this city. I would continue to work to the best of my abilities to further the goals of this community and to offer sound advice. Possible Areas of Conflict of Interest with the City: As mentioned above and as previously disclosed, I am an owner of three downtown properties. The office for my tax and accounting practice is also located downtown. While it is possible that a divergence of interests may someday arise (in which case recusal or other action would be appropriate), I can't think of a single instance, in the 27 years I have served on this Committee, where my interests as a property owner were not aligned with the City's interests in creating and maintaining a vibrant, healthy downtown. As a younger resident of San Rafael, I want to help shape the future of the community where I will continue to live.
