It is recommended that the City Council interview
the following seven applicants:
Summary Background:
At the City Council meeting of May 15, 2017, the City Council adopted a resolution establishing
the Special Library Parcel Tax Committee for Measure 'D' and directed staff to commence the
application process. Nineteen applications were received by the deadline of June 23, 2017;
however, it was determined that four of the applicants were not residents of the City of San
Rafael, and therefore, ineligible to apply.
Due to the high volume of applications received, a subcommittee of the City Council carried out
an initial review of the fifteen eligible applicants and selected eight to be interviewed by the full
City Council; however, one candidate is unable to attend.
Initial Terms:
• Three Five -Year Terms and Two Four -Year Terms — to be decided at the first
committee meeting
• Mayor to appoint the initial Chair.
• Four -Year Terms for all members thereafter.

I work with many digital librarians on standards and tools for enabling online catalogs and fostering shared
connections between libraries. In particular, my software is used as part of the Hydra Connect and
Blacklight software suites used in academia, and I have consulted with Stanford University Digital
Libraries. I am also at a time in my life where I can spend time on outside projects that are of interest, and
it's an opportunity to give back to my community.
