A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN RAFAEL SUPPORTING THE REESTABLISHMENT
OF PASSENGER RAIL SERVICE FOR THE NORTHCOAST
WHE REAS , the San Francisco Bay Area is in many ways cut off from the
Northcoast of the State of California, due to inadequate transportation systems;
and
WHEREAS, the cost of fuel, the time of travel, and the driving conditions
make automobile travel between the Eureka -Arcata area and the San Francisco Bay
Area uncomfortable, expensive and inconvenient; and
WHEREAS, passenger rail service could provide solutions to the above
problems, as well as provide a needed shot in the arm to the northcoast economy;
and
WHEREAS, the Northcoast Rail Travel Foundation is working to reestablish
passenger rail service on the northcoast through a variety of activities, including
the sponsorship and promotion of a Memorial Day Excursion Rail Trip from the San
Francisco Bay Area to Humboldt County on Memorial Day Weekend, 1975
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
San Rafael does hereby:
(1) Enthusiastically support the reestablishment of passenger
rail service between the San Francisco Bay Area and Arcata -
Eureka and the efforts of the Northcoast Rail Travel Foundation
to bring this about,
(2) Endorse the Memorial Day Excursion Trip proposed by the North
Coast Rail Travel Foundation, and urges Amtrak to provide the
necessary cars and support services for such a trip,
(3) Urge Senators Cranston and Tunney, Congressman Clausen
and the cities and counties of the northcoast to support and
work for northcoast passenger rail service and the Memorial
Day Excusion Trip, and
(4) Urge that the Humboldt County Regional Transportation Plan
include support for the concept of rail passenger service.
I, MARION A. GRADY, Clerk of the City of San Rafael, hereby certify that
the foregoing resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted at a
regular meeting of the Council of said City held on
